Lunch-A-Go-Go

lunchbags for wee nieces

This was my big gift giving push last holiday. I made lunch bags for each of my neices, nephew, and friends' littles and partnered them with a cute Sigg water bottle ($15 and up at reusablebags.com) You can find how to make your own, and other lunch bag ideas here along with other great gift ideas as part of Sew, Mama, Sew!'s Handmade Holidays: 30 Days of Gifts to Sew.

Just saw this post, so I'm leaving a late question. I LOVE these lunchboxes but don't oilcloth and vinyl contain lead? Please tell me I'm wrong so I can make tons of these!

Hi Kim - It is my understanding that traditionally yes, oilcloth contained lead as a drying agent, but that it doesn't today. In any case, these were made of a vinyl coated cotton from sew! mama! sew!. I struggled with the idea of using vinyl (we are trying to reduce our household plastics!)but in the end have found these wore really well. I have also used the same pattern for canvas lunchbags (machine washable - yay!)which are another way to go. Hope this helps! xo tracy
