You can sign up, but it doesn't actually do any good in any area I'm aware of. Phone books are either mailed to entire area codes, or subcontracted out to delivery services who put one by every residential door, three by every business door, period. Changing that would dramatically increase delivery costs. Plus, phone companies aren't going to jeopardize their precious yellow-pages revenue stream without actual legislation.

dang! I was just wondering how I could not get a phone book anymore. They seem like such an incredible waste in this Internet age. I guess we'll just have to think of creative ways to reuse them.
